Check the computer and work through the next steps

We discuss what happened before beginning the computer checks. Account, identity and financial concerns also need action with the relevant provider, because cleaning the device cannot undo information already disclosed. Our role is to explain findings and suitable computer work clearly.

  • Discuss what the caller or other person asked you to do.
  • Check installed remote-access and unwanted software.
  • Investigate suspicious browser or system changes.
  • Help review relevant account security settings.
  • Check everyday applications after computer work.
  • Discuss updates, backups and practical precautions.

Getting ready for the appointment

  • Keep a note of the time and what access was provided.
  • Tell us which software was installed if you know.
  • Have relevant messages or screenshots available.
  • Contact your bank promptly if money or financial details may be at risk.

Common questions

What should I do if I think someone accessed my computer?

If banking or payment details may be affected, speak to your bank straight away. Do not wait for a computer appointment before reporting that concern.

Can you check remote access software left on the computer?

No assessment can prove what somebody has already viewed or taken. We explain what is found on the computer and the limits of the work.

Do I need to change account details as well?

A new device is not automatically necessary. We can assess the computer and discuss suitable remediation or other options from the findings.

Can computer repairs recover stolen money?

Macs are included. We can check for unwanted remote-access applications, suspicious software and relevant settings changes after an unexpected caller has been involved.

How do I find out about pricing?

Our minimum labour time is one hour per job, and many jobs only need that hour. If more time is needed, we bill in 15 minute blocks. We do not charge call-out fees or travel costs. For onsite work, the time starts when your technician arrives. Parts cost extra if needed. The total depends on the fault and the work required, so we can give a more accurate estimate after diagnosis. Call us on 1300 376 225 to discuss pricing, or use our repair estimate form to send the details.

How long should I allow for the job?

Many jobs take around an hour, which is our minimum labour time per job. If extra time is needed, we bill in 15 minute blocks. After diagnosing the issue, your technician can give a more accurate time estimate and explain the options, taking the work needed and your budget into account. Some repairs need parts or work offsite, which can affect the time before the computer is ready.
