New computer setup on the Sunshine Coast

A new computer should make life easier. Australian Computer Doctors can visit your Sunshine Coast home or small business and get your laptop or desktop ready with the email, files and equipment you use every day.

Tell us what you want to move from the old computer and what needs connecting. We can discuss the work and pricing before arranging a visit, then help you make sense of the new setup. We can set up Windows computers and Macs.

Get the whole setup working together

Buying the computer is only the first step. Email may need adding again, a printer may need reconnecting and your photos may be in several different places. We can help work through those jobs in the same appointment.

You can ask us to explain the basics as we go, including where your files are saved and how to check a backup. We focus on getting the computer useful for you, rather than installing things you do not need.

  • Prepare your user account and everyday settings.
  • Set up email and the applications you normally use.
  • Connect to your home Wi-Fi and set up a printer.
  • Transfer photos, documents and other files from an accessible old device.
  • Connect screens, external storage and other accessories.
  • Arrange a suitable backup and show you how to check it.

Before the technician arrives

  • Keep the old computer available until the transfer has been checked.
  • Make a list of the programs and files you want on the new device.
  • Have the new computer, charger and connected equipment ready.
  • Mention any fault on the old machine when booking, especially if it will not start.

Common questions

Can you move my files from a Windows PC to a Mac?

Yes. We can help transfer documents, photos and other suitable files between Windows and Mac computers. Some applications need a different version or a new installation, so tell us which programs you want to keep using.

Do I need to set anything up before you come?

You can leave the setup for us. Let us know what you have already done, whether the old computer still works and which email, printer and other equipment you want to use.

Will my old printer work with the new computer?

It depends on the printer, its connections and the software available for the new computer. Share the printer model when enquiring so we can discuss setup and check any compatibility questions.

Can you show me how to use the new computer?

We can help with everyday tasks such as finding files, opening email and using the programs you need. Make a short list of the things you want explained so we can allow for them when planning the visit.

How do I find out about pricing?

Our minimum labour time is one hour per job, and many jobs only need that hour. If more time is needed, we bill in 15 minute blocks. We do not charge call-out fees or travel costs. For onsite work, the time starts when your technician arrives. Parts cost extra if needed. The total depends on the fault and the work required, so we can give a more accurate estimate after diagnosis. Call us on (07) 5412 1255 to discuss pricing, or use our repair estimate form to send the details.

How long should I allow for the job?

Many jobs take around an hour, which is our minimum labour time per job. If extra time is needed, we bill in 15 minute blocks. After diagnosing the issue, your technician can give a more accurate time estimate and explain the options, taking the work needed and your budget into account. Some repairs need parts or work offsite, which can affect the time before the computer is ready.
