Computer Cleaning After a Scam: Help for Geelong Homes

Geelong help when your bank asks for a computer clean. Onsite malware and remote access checks, clear advice and a written service report.

Has your bank told you to have your computer cleaned before using it for banking again? Australian Computer Doctors can help at your Geelong home, checking for unwanted software and explaining the work needed after a scam.

We can also provide a written service report. Let us know what the bank has requested when you call, so the checks and documentation can be discussed together.

Call (03) 5215 1111 or enquire online to discuss your situation.

Cleaning means checking security, not just tidying files

After a remote access scam, deleting a few downloads or clearing the desktop is not the same as a security check. We can review installed access tools, scan for malware and inspect relevant settings and browser changes. A scam can involve ordinary software being used dishonestly, so the circumstances matter as well as the scan results.

What happens during the visit?

We ask about the incident, inspect the computer and explain our findings. Depending on what is discovered, work may include removing unwanted programs, checking security protection and discussing account precautions. Some cases need more extensive work, such as reinstalling the operating system. We will explain that option and consider important files before additional work is carried out.

Can you issue the certificate my bank mentioned?

If your bank has used the term computer clearance certificate or computer cleaning certificate, show us its instructions. We can supply a written report of the checks, findings and work completed. It describes the service at that time and any recommendations, rather than certifying that future compromise is impossible. The bank has the final say on its documentation requirements.

I feel embarrassed about what happened

You do not need to be. Our job is to help with the computer and explain the next steps, not expect you to understand how the scam worked. Tell us what you can remember, even if you are unsure of the order. We can talk through concerns patiently and answer questions about using the device afterwards.

Does this also cover Macs?

Yes. We support Windows computers and Macs, with the checks tailored to the device. Remote access and account scams are not limited to one type of computer. Mention any other affected devices when enquiring so we can discuss the work involved of the appointment.

Book a Geelong computer check

Call to discuss your computer, the bank’s request and pricing. We normally come to you. If the scam is still in progress or you think someone remains connected, disconnect the computer from the internet and contact your bank using an official contact method. Keep relevant messages and instructions for the technician to review.
